The Romanian Government decision establishing a Hungarian teaching division in the University of Medicine in Targu Mures was suspended Friday by a ruling of the Targu Mures Court of Appeals, which admitted a request filed by the university's management.

Romania was the scene of anti-government protests Saturday evening, with as many as 2,000 people occupying Bucharest's University Square, while smaller rallies of no more than a hundred people took place in Sibiu, Suceava, Iasi, Cluj-Napoca and other cities.

The Romanian Chamber of Deputies on Tuesday tacitly adopted a bill put forward by ruling democrat liberal MPs Catalin Croitoru and Petru Filip which eliminates tuition-fee seats in state universities.

Romanian university “Spiru Haret” was introduced on the list of private accredited universities, with the clear specification that the degrees and the accredited or authorized study programs will function temporarily, government spokesperson Ioana Muntean said Wednesday.

The Bucharest Court of Appeals decided Friday to suspend two articles of Government Decision 749/2009 eliminating "Spiru Haret” University from the list of acknowledged universities and banning the organization of 2009-2010 admission contests for new students looking to study at the university.
