Taxes on trucks heavier than 12 tons could almost double as of next year, according to a draft decision by Romania's Ministry of Transports.

Romanian drivers will not be obliged to equip their vehicles with snow tires this winter and the measure will be implemented starting November 2011.

Registrations of Romanian new Dacia cars and light commercial vehicles in France registered the biggest increase in 2009 of 51.4%, to 65,956 units, according to the Committee of French Automobile Constructors (CCFA).

Owners of vehicles weighing more than 2.8 tons whose carbon emissions are not specified in the vehicle manual will pay the Romanian Automotive Register, or RAR, up to 2,300 lei (EUR1-RON7276) to have emissions assessed.

Drivers transporting livestock on a distance longer than 65 kilometers, and their companions, must hold, as of January 5, 2008, a certificate of professional competence drawn up in Romanian and English, to attest the holder’s graduation of training courses in the field of livestock transportation.
