Bucharest Mayoralty Results: Oprescu Gains 30.12% Votes, Blaga – 29.56%

Independent candidate for Bucharest mayoralty office, Sorin Oprescu gained 30.12% of the valid votes at the local elections on June 1, while its main rival, democrat liberal Vasile Blaga won 29.56% of the votes, Romanian elections officials said Friday.

Neither of the two candidates gained 50% plus one of the total votes to avoid a runoff, according to the final election results published by the Central Electoral Office.

Social democrat candidate Cristian Diaconescu ranked third with 12.33% of the votes.
