U.S. president George W. Bush congratulated Romanian Prime Minister Calin Tariceanu for the introduction of the flat tax, adding he is a little “jealous” and the United States plan to introduce a similar taxation system.

Bush told Tariceanu at the end of their meting at the government headquarters that the 16% flat tax was a good idea and this type of policies outline a bright future for Romania.
 
The Romanian government introduced the 16% flat tax on January 1, 2005, soon after Tariceanu took office.
