"In the situations of families who have one or more children with disabilities and who are in the unhappy context that both parents are sick and need emergency hospitalization, and the child is asymptomatic or healthy and, very important, does not exist no alternative in the small family, in the extended family, in the relatives, in the acquaintances, in the circle of friends, who can temporarily take care of the child, and at the request of the parent, the direction of protection of the child can help and can take the child for a certain period of time", Mădălina Turza, head of the Authority for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Children and Adoptions said.
The measure can also be applied to children without disabilities.
"This is not an exceptional procedure, it has always existed at the level of the social assistance and child protection departments, for those situations when raising and caring for a child in the family was no longer possible", Turza says.
After the DGASPC takes over a child in such a situation, he or she will be housed in a special isolation space and will not stay with other children in the social protection system. The DSP should handle their testing. Children stay in these spaces for 14 days and, if the tests go negative, they are moved to other areas belonging to the protection system.
