Dignitary Probe Vote Sparks Conflict Between Romanian Pres, Chamber Speaker
Romanian Chamebr Speaker Bogdan Olteanu told MEDIAFAX he would really wish for the head of state to handle "his own lies," adding that as long as he does not speak to Basescu about a ship’s bow and stern, Basescu should not lecture him on laws and the Parliament.

"I know that the president is comfortable with lying and I would really wish for him to handle his own lies, before making accusations where he does not know what he is talking about. President Basescu is not good with laws and, as long as I do not speak to him about the bow and stern of a ship, I expect him not to lecture me on what he does not know," Olteanu said.
He added Basescu should check the press and the recordings in the Chamber, during voting, if he thinks it is a lie that democrat liberals missed the vote regarding the commencement of criminal investigations against Miron Mitrea and Adrian Nastase.
"If he thinks it is a lie that the democrat liberal MPs missed voting, he should check the voting recordings and today’s (Wednesday) newspapers and, generally, I would like him to stop throwing dirt in others when he is guilty and when his comrades are guilty,” Olteanu said.
The Romanian Chamber of Deputies did not meet quorum conditions Tuesday to approve or reject prosecutors’ request to investigate former social democrat prime minister Adrian Nastase and former transport minister Miron Mitrea.
Only 208 MPs voted, instead of the 220 needed for quorum.
Although present at the meeting, Nastase and Mitrea did not vote.
Basescu sent a letter to Olteanu, saying he is displeased that, through the vote on Tuesday, MPs delay for “unacceptably long" the procedure for the approval of criminal investigations against Mitrea and Nastase, official sources told MEDIAFAX.
Olteanu replied to Basescu telling him that if the democrat liberal MPs were present, the vote would have been validly expressed.
Basescu sent a new letter to Olteanu, telling him he makes false and grave statements and that he has serious shortcomings in his knowledge of laws, asking him to refrain from implying that he is the attorney of the MPs for whom criminal investigations have been requested.
