The Arab country’s Foreign Affairs Ministry announced that the visit was cancelled “in solidarity with Jerusalem”, alluding to PM Dancila’s announcement on Sunday.
Romania’s Presidential Administration confirmed that the visit was unilaterally cancelled by the Jordanian side.
King Abdullah II was scheduled to meet with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis on Bucharest on Monday.
The Romanian chief of cabinet announced on Sunday, during a visit to the US, that Romania will move its embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, pending the finish of an analysis on the subject. She was later criticized by President Klaus Iohannis, who denied that a decision on the matter was made.
Dancila later said that she expressed a “personal opinion” on the matter, adding all constitutional steps must be respected in making an eventual decision on moving the embassy.
