NATO Backs Georgia, Ukraine For Pre-Membership

NATO salutes reforms in Ukraine and Georgia and supports the two nations' request for the Membership Action Plan, NATO secretary general Jaap de Hoop Scheffer said Thursday, adding these countries would be part of the Alliance.

Said NATO salutes Georgia and Ukraine’s aspirations and allied states agreed the two nations will become NATO members.

Scheffer added an assessment in view of offering Ukraine and Georgia a Membership Action Plan will be made in December.
