Romania 2009 Housing Construction Falls 5% To 61,101 Units

Romanian housing construction fell 5% on the year to 61,101 new units in 2009, preliminary data from the country’s statistics institute showed Thursday.

Of the total units finished last year, 5,691 were financed from public funds, up from 4,459 units in 2008.

The rest of 55,410 units were financed from private funds, down from 59,955 units the year before.

In the fourth quarter alone, 22,931 new homes were completed, 4,820 less than in the same period of 2008.
