Romania Leu Up Vs Euro, Exch Rate At 4.2578

Romania’s leu extended early gains versus the euro in mid trade Monday and the central bank’s reference won 0.2% to 4.2578 units, from 4.2669 units Friday.

Against the US dollar, the leu's indicative lost nearly 0.4% on the day at 3.2032 units.

The leu opened slightly higher at 4.263/4.265 per euro, from 4.265/4.268 per euro at Friday's closing and further gained ground, tracking the currencies in the region.

At around GMT1100, the leu traded at 4.2571/4.2585 to the euro.

On the money market Monday, overnight rates fell slightly to 2%-2.5% a year, from 2.1%-2.6% a year Friday. The central bank drained RON500 million from commercial lenders earlier today, but the move was not enough to boost the rates.
