Romania PM-Designate Says Voted For “Honest And Powerful” President

Negoita said he hopes voter turnout will be high.

"We want to get people to vote and make them realize it is highly important they vote," said Negoita, on whose proposed Cabinet the Parliament has so far refused to hold a confidence vote.

About 18 million Romanian eligible voters are expected to cast ballots Sunday to elect their president for the next five years and will choose between incumbent President Traian Basescu and social democrat Mircea Geoana.

Polls close at GMT1900.
