Basescu said that if the Cabinet resigns political parties would have to start negotiations, which is not a priority at the moment, adding that a political deadlock is the last thing Romania needs at the moment.
The President said that he, and not Prime Minister Emil Boc, announced the cuts on public sector expenses after negotiations with the International Monetary Fund because he does not have a "coward's vocation".
