Romania Senate Committee Report Rejects Delay Of Teachers’ Pay Hike

Romanian Senate’s education committee on Tuesday adopted a report to reject the government ordinance which puts off a 50% wage increase for staff in education.

According to Senator Irinel Popescu, head of the education committee, the government ordinance in fact annuls the teachers’ pay hike rather than postponing its enforcement.

The Romanian government last week adopted an emergency ordinance to block the 50% wage hike for personnel in the educational system until April next year.

The Senate will meet next week to debate the ordinance.
