Romanian Border Police Seize Two Turkish Fishing Boats

Romanian border police officers detained two Turkish fishing boats caught poaching in the Black Sea and had to open fire to stop one of the ships, border police spokesman Fabian Badila said Saturday.

Badila said the first vessel was detained Friday evening in waters 60 miles from Sfantu Gheorghe and the 14 Turkish sailors aboard said they had no identity cards.

The second Turkish boat was seized Saturday morning and police officers had to open fire to stop it. Several trawl nets and ice were found aboard.

The Turkish sailors will be heard by the police.
