Romanian Lawmakers OK Ungureanu As Foreign Intelligence Service Head

Romanian lawmakers in plenary session Wednesday approved the appointment of former foreign affairs minister Razvan Ungureanu as head of the Romanian Foreign Intelligence Service, or SIE.

Ungureanu got 295 favorable votes from 318 lawmakers present, said Senate secretary Gavrila Vasilescu.

Ungureanu was nominated for this position late November, by president Traian Basescu, while the position was vacant since March, when former chief Claudiu Saftoiu resigned.
