Romanian Prime Minister Calin Tariceanu on Monday asked the country’s new foreign minister Lazar Comanescu to make a priority out of protecting the rights of Romanians abroad.

Comanescu gave assurance that the ministry started evaluation procedures on staff in Romania’s embassies and consular offices.

Comanescu, Romania’s former ambassador to the European Union, was appointed foreign affairs minister one week ago, following the resignation of Adrian Cioroianu.

Cioroianu resigned over the scandal involving the death of a Romanian national in Poland.
