Romanian President Traian Basescu’s youngest daughter, Elena Basescu, decided to run for a seat in the European Parliament, she told Romanian daily Cotidianul.

"Together with my colleagues in the party’s youth organization I decided to run for a seat in the European Parliament. In this respect, I’ve started procedures to submit my candidacy on the part of the Youth Organization of the Democratic Liberal Party,” Basescu said, cited in the paper’s online edition Saturday.

Elena Basescu is secretary general of the party’s youth organization.
