Tourists who visit Romania have several things to worry about, such as pick-pocketers, cab drivers who refuse to turn on their taximeters, overcharged restaurant bills or reckless drivers, Lonely Planet said in its country travel guide Tuesday.
Lonely Planet Travel Guide Warns Tourists About Romanian Pick Pocketers
Lonely Planet’s travel guide on Romania warns tourists to keep their bags safe from pick pocketers who operate mainly in Bucharest and Brasov, but also in other cities, such as Constanta, Iasi, Suceava or Timisoara. Tourists are advised to hold their purses closed at all times and not to let them out of sight.
As to restaurant bills, tourists should be aware that the price on the menu might differ from the prices printed on the bill, the travel guide mentioned.
Lonely Planet Publications, one of the largest travel guidebook publishers in the world, is controlled by BBC Worldwide, which owns a 75% share. Founders Maureen and Tony Wheeler still own 25% of the company.
The company owns the Lonely Planet Television company, which produced and developed four series: Lonely Planet Six Degrees, The Sport Traveller, Going Bush and Vintage New Zealand.
