Romania’s justice minister Catalin Predoiu said Friday the country shouldn’t expect the European Union to stop monitoring the legal system, which “is not great news”, but all institutions involved need to cooperate.

The minister said recent progress, such as the adoption of the institutional framework of the National Integrity Agency, set up to screen politicians’ wealth, should not be overlooked.
"We need to act on the same list of priorities, namely to complete reforms and create the conditions to have the watch lifted as soon as possible,” Predoiu said.
Predoiu said that on the one hand there is harsh criticism as to trials that go on for too long and complicated procedures, but on the other, the legal framework is not very clear and magistrates work in rough conditions.
"These are not excuses, these are realities," the minister said.
