Romania should negotiate with the International Monetary Fund, early January, a support facility worth up to EUR20 billion, for the financing of deficits, which should not be used except if necessary, former Romanian finance minister Sebastian Vladescu told MEDIAFAX.

"An arrangement with the International Monetary Fund would certainly not hurt Romania. The sum is indeed high. But look at the sums negotiated by Poland and Hungary," Vladescu said.

 
He added such an arrangement could also boost the confidence of foreign investors in local authorities’ ability to manage navigate the crisis.
