Romanian Feb Jobless Rate Unchanged at 4.3%

Romania’s unemployment rate was unchanged on the month in February at 4.3%, the Romanian employment agency said Wednesday.

On the year, the country's jobless rate was down 1 percentage point in February from 5.3% in February last year.

The number of unemployed people totaled 379,898 in February, compared with 383,989 in January.

Romania’s average annual unemployment rate hit a 14-year low at 5.4% in 2006, down from 5.8% in 2005, and is on a downward trend due to the ongoing labor crisis caused by a diminishing work force. An estimated two million Romanians are working abroad.
