Romanian Immigrants Sent Home EUR4.4B In 2006-Eurostat
Romanian workers sent home EUR4.4 billion in 2006, placing Romania second in a classification of EU countries based on remittance inflows, a survey of Statistical Office of the European Communities Eurostat showed.

Overall immigrants’ remittances in EU countries reached EUR24.0 billion in 2006, up against EUR21.2 billion sent in 2005. The biggest receiving countries in 2006 are Spain with EUR4.8 billion, Romania and the United Kingdom (EUR3.5 billion).
Eurostat data is below the figures released by Romania’s central bank BNR, which said remittances in 2006 reached EUR5.32 billion.
