Romanian Parliament Committees Approve Interior Min 2011 Budget

The Romanian Parliament’s defense and public order committees on Thursday approved the 2011 budget of the Interior Ministry, which amounts to 1.38% of the GDP, around EUR1.7 billion.

The budget also says around 18,000 employees are to be laid off in 2011, in two stages.

Senate defense committee president Teodor Melescanu said he voted in favor of all the amendments that increased loans for the ministry and highlighted that he opposed the layoffs.

Interior Minister Traian Igas said figures are misinterpreted and added this matter cannot be discussed before an analysis is carried out.
